In both of these versions of sleeping beauty there is a king and a queen that have no children. They both want a child. They eventually had a daughter and to celebrate their excitement the king and queen threw a party. The fairies came to the party and each fairy left the newborn daughter a gift. The unhappy fairy is mad that she was not invited and she leaves a gift of the daughter pricking her finger on a spindle and dying. In “Little Brier-Rose” the fairy says the daughter will die at age 15 and in “Sleeping Beauty” she says the daughter will die at age 17. Then the next fairy says that the daughter will not die when she pricks her finger, but she will go into a deep sleep for 100 years. Both versions of the story then fast forward in time to when she does prick her finger on the spindle. In both cases she is left home alone and she sees an old lady spinning and she tries herself and pricks her finger. The prince is advised that there is a beautiful woman waiting in her sleep to be woken so he goes on his way to find her. Once he arrives at the castle he needs to penetrate a thick hedge to get into the castle. Of course, the prince is not afraid and bravely makes his way through the hedge. In the end, the prince finds Sleeping Beauty and kisses her to break the enchantment. And they lived happily ever after.
The poem is similar to the story in the sense that she sleeps until her true love kisses her to waken her, but there is additional information that were not in the brother's grimm story. The poem adds that she will have children and that she will be making the prince pies. This is also very similar because her life depends on being awoken by a kiss to end the curse. The prince found her. This poem just adds on to what happens after they got married.
