The Fairy Tale Project (shared from Inman)
It is your turn to add to or to subvert a bit of Fairy Tale tradition.
Choose one of the following stories (or one of your choice by Brothers Grimm):
Aschenputtel (Cinderella)
Rapunzel
Sleeping Beauty
Read the version by the Brothers Grimm. (You can find it online)
Find an additional version to review (anything but Disney), and write a brief comparison analyzing how the two versions interact. (250-350 words, typed, double spaced, and polished...and shared via google docs). Be sure to share a copy of the story as well.
Develop your own telling of the story. For this, the options are as endless as you can dream up. Some suggestions:
- Create an advertising campaign for a product (or products) using the characters and details from the story.
- Retell the story in a modern way.
- Write about what happens “ever after,” past the end of the story.
- Create a series of “artifacts” that might belong to the story (as if someone pulled out the shoe box of saved things from under Cinderella’s bed--what would be inside?).
- Write the story from the villain’s perspective.
- Create a visual representation of what you’d consider the most fundamental elements or lessons from the story.
- Have this story collide with another fairytale.
- And so on...and so forth…
Details for the creative piece:
- Writing should be polished (revised and proofed).
- Writing should be roughly two pages (minimum) double spaced. You don’t have to double space, but that’s a guide for you.
- Art should be more than a sketch on a piece of printer paper. It should demonstrate that time and effort went into its creation. Draft sketches are encouraged.
Work Days: Monday, March 24 & Tuesday, March 25. Sharing drafts: Thursday, March 26. Due: Friday, March 27.
